T.A.M.I. Show Contest
Up until last week, The T.A.M.I. Show had been the stuff of legend. A 1964 concert film featuring the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, and a purportedly transcendent performance from James Brown. And more, The T.A.M.I. Show ran in theaters for a few months at the end of 1964 and beginning of 1965 before disappearing for roughly forty-five years.
Its reputation grew by word of mouth. Producer Rick Rubin once described Brown’s performance in the movie as maybe “the single greatest rock ’n’ roll performance ever captured on film.” Quentin Tarantino sees The T.A.M.I. Show as “in the top three of all rock movies.” Michael Jackson once pleaded with a journalist to find him a copy (he was looking for Brown’s set). Sting actually had a bootleg copy of the film, going so far as to sing about it in a Police song: “Turned on my VCR/Same one I’ve had for years/James Brown on The T.A.M.I. Show/Same tape I’ve had for years.”
But the wait is over. The complete film, featuring Brown and eleven other musical acts, was released on DVD last week by the folks at Shout! Factory. Enter the contest below for a chance to win a free copy of The T.A.M.I. Show.
