Little Shalimar
The New Pneumonia Blues
Little Shalimar is Torbitt Schwartz, the drummer and a founding member of Chin Chin, which released a couple of joints on Def Jux. With The New Pneumonia Blues, the Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist makes the transition from respected musician and producer to front man and solo artist. The nine-track EP is available for free download here today. Recorded and performed almost entirely by Little Shalimar himself, The New Pneumonia Blues is a genre-defying pop album with wry, yet sincere lyrics, laid back grooves, and some genuine guitar shredding. Over the course of the album, he evokes elements of Dr. John, Can, Tom Tom Club, and Jimi Hendrix. Be sure to check Little Shalimar when he hits the road with a live band featuring members of TV on the Radio (when they’re not touring), Antibalas, Phenomenal Handclap Band, and Chin Chin, for a multicultural, face-melting party that showcases some of Brooklyn’s dopest musicians. In the meantime, feel these New Pneumonia Blues.
