Live at Zooladoola Mountain
Hiatus Kaiyote extended family Kirkis
by Wax Poetics
Kirkis is the creative output in overdrive from hyperbolic visual artist, producer, and bassist Matthew Kirkis.
Performed live as a four-piece, sharing members from fellow Melbourne future soul group Hiatus Kaiyote, their exploratory sound, moves through the world of jilted beats and terrains of future jazz, with punk ethos and hallucinatory pit stops.
Live At Zooladoola Mountain is an eight-minute psych mood piece live video, a medley of songs from debut release Purple Fruit For Xray Vision.
Kirkis’s debut release, Purple Fruit For Xray Vision, was recorded in his bedroom and acts a catalyst for the psychedelic lounge thrash movement to begin.
Taking influence from West Coast flavors on the Brainfeeder label such as fellow lead bassist Thundercat and Fly Lo, there’s some Yesterdays New Quintet, and a rare Chick Corea and Roy Ayers funk song on bad acid that never happened.
