Souls of Mischief 93 ’til Infinity 20th Anniversary Mixtape

Mixed by DJ Chris Read for Wax Poetics and Who Sampled

After appearing on the B-side of Del Tha Funkee Homosapien’s “Mistadobalina” in 1991 on a track called “Burnt,” a young rap quartet hailing from East Oakland, California, gained due attention and signed to major label Jive Records. A twelve-day-long professional studio session ensued, and a seminal debut album was released on September 28, 1993. The record in question was the classic hip-hop LP 93 ’til Infinity, and the group were none other than Bay Area heroes Souls of Mischief.

Full of flipped jazz samples, audacious raps, flawless production, and boundless youthful energy, the album continues to engage and inspire listeners today.

To mark the twentieth anniversary of 93 ’til Infinity, Who Sampled’s Chris Read has expertly crafted an exclusive mixtape of tracks from the album, alternate versions, original sample material, and interview clips.
