E Da Boss and Mocambo debut new track, “The Turning Point”
by Andrew Mason
Best known as one-half of soul duo Myron & E, Eric “E” Cooke aka E Da Boss, has a new, limited-edition 45 arriving on April 15 that marks the beginning of a collaboration with German new funk specialists Mocambo Records. The Newark, New Jersey native and current San Franciscan says, “this record is the first song I created working with producer Bjorn Wagner from the Mighty Mocambos.” The two met in Hamburg last year, and when Cooke mentioned to Wagner he was a fan of the Mocambos’s sound, they decided to work on some material together. “Once I was back in the States, I was working with one of my songwriting and singing partners, Ishtar Peeler, and told her about the demo I got from Bjorn,” says Cooke. “The working title—with no lyrics—was called ‘Turning Point.'” A theme developed as E and Ishtar started to write lyrics, and “the tune sort of turned into a breakup song,” Cooke says. “Usually when you break from a love that’s the ‘Turning Point.'” In a twist on the song’s title, the successful collaboration was in fact a starting point. “After that track came out cool, Bjorn sent more music and I went to work enlisting a bunch of good friends to help sing and with the songwriting, so stay tuned,” Cooke says. “We got a lot more music to share in the near future!”
Wax Poetics is happy to debut “The Turning Point,” a cinematic builder reminiscent of the epic ’70s work of Isaac Hayes. The track features orchestration by the Mighty Mocambos leader Wagner and guest vocals by Ishtar Peeler, and is available for pre-order here.
