Quantic’s “Addis to Axum” Mix

by

Producer and selector Quantic first met Ethio-jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke in 2004, while hunting down records in Addis Ababa with Soundway’s Miles Cleret and photographer/filmmaker B+ (as featured in Wax Poetics Issue 14). Five years later, they were reunited at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex in Los Angeles for the Mochilla/VTech production of Timeless, where Mulatu played with a full orchestra and jazz vets Bennie Maupin and Phil Ranelin. Quantic’s hour-long opening DJ set, dubbed Addis to Axum and comprised almost entirely of music discovered during his 2004 trip to Ethiopia, is available now as a free download.

Grab it here.

Preorder the DVD box set Timeless that includes the Mulatu performance as well as Arthur Verocai and the Ma Dukes Suite.
