The Broken Keys “Elbow Grease and Engine Oil” DJ Mix

The Broken Keys present a one hour mix of the super heavy sounds that provide the foundation and inspiration of the duo’s music. [audio:http://waxpoetics.com/content/audio/brokenkeys/brokenkeys.mp3]

Comprised of the many variations where rock meets funk, the blues, soul and psychedelia, this mix brings the rawness to the fore. It’s got breaks for days and a totally tripped out vibe throughout. Some of the breaks you’ll recognise, some maybe not. It really doesn’t matter. This mix isn’t just for the kids with dusty fingers; it’s also for cats who are simply fans of the music. The Broken Keys pay tribute to many of the American artists that have been such an influence on them. Zappa is here. Howlin Wolf is here. But let us not forget that the Keys are U.K. and proud, so it’s only right that their island is represented fully with tracks from Black Sabbath, Julie Driscoll, Collusseum and The Graham Bond Organisation (a particular favourite of mine). And that’s just to name a few. This mix was truly made with love and that?s a fact. The Keys said to me in their characteristically humble way, they hope you have as much fun listening to it as they did putting it together. I know I did.

Peace to you all,

Bob Personal (friend and mentor)
