“If You Didn’t Go”—the follow-up to the breakout debut “Concrete Waves” and the second single from Wax Poetics artist Kendra Morris—delves deep into lush and slick terrain, anchored by a unique funkiness that recalls the glory days of ’70s radio and sunny blue-eyed soul.
Chico Mann’s synthesis of Afrobeat, Latin freestyle, electro, and Cuban soul is nothing if not unprecedented. And in keeping with that theme, Wax Poetics Records will deliver not one, but two releases by multi-instrumentalist Marcos Garcia—aka Chico Mann—on October 26. In addition to Mann’s Analog Drift, his second album, Wax Poetics Records will drop an Official Serato Control Vinyl featuring the music of Chico Mann on one side and Serato Control Vinyl on the flip. The A-side will offer the Chico Mann songs “Ya Yo Sé” and “Exponential,” the latter tune exclusive to this release.
In 2004, Serato debuted its Scratch Live software, allowing DJs to mix and scratch files from their computer using regular turntables or CDJs. Control Vinyl in various colors soon became collector’s items among DJs, and Ya Yo Sé will enter this realm in a new shade of green.
