La Mecánica Popular releases cumbia version of “Thriller” for Halloween, debuts video

La Mecánica Popular debuts a new video for their latest single on the Brooklyn-based record label Names You Can Trust. Michael Jackson’s Halloween classic “Thriller” (here retitled “Noche Triler”) mutates into an up-tempo instrumental that combines  styles from guaracha and cumbión, all through the filter of Mecánica’s signature psychedelic Peruvian style. The video is a bugged-out and frenetic trip through the land of B-movie horror classics and mind-bending visual effects. Don’t stare too deep into the Not-Safe-for-Epileptics video or you may catch the Triler Shock!

La Mecánica Popular will be playing two live sets for their record release party at Nublu in New York City on November 14.

Their latest single, “Noche Triler (Thriller)” b/w “Móntame en la Tormenta (Riders on the Storm)” can be purchased through Names You Can Trust on 7-inch Vinyl or Digital Download.
